Our Story

New England Surveying & Engineering is a Land Development consultancy based in Armidale, New South Wales. We provide Surveying, Civil Engineering Design, Town Planning and Project Management services to projects located throughout New South Wales and southern Queensland.

We have a long history in Armidale having been first established by Jim Hawkins in 1955. In 1994 we became known as Hawkins Hook & Co. In 2013 we changed our trading name to ‘New England Surveying & Engineering’, reflecting the diverse range of services that we now provide. Since our establishment, we have been involved in most major land development and construction projects in the Armidale Region.

Equipment

In the field, our Surveyors utilise a combination of robotic total station and GPS technology in order to achieve high levels of measurement accuracy in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Our office software packages include; Magnet Office; Civil3D; AutoCad; MapInfo; Drains and’ Hec-Ras. We also utilise Land and Property Information’s online plan lodgement portal (known as ePlan) for registration of Plans of Subdivision, Easements, Road Closures and Section 88b Instruments.

Quality Assurance

New England Surveying and Engineering has an ‘in-house’ Quality Management system which has been developed over several years. Quality assurance procedures exist in various forms for every project task which is undertaken by the business. Quality Assurance audits are undertaken on all data collection, calculations and deliverables.

Audits on deliverables typically consist of the completion of an audit checklist (developed either in house, by industry or by a regulatory body) which is completed by two or more staff members. Each deliverable is then assessed for compliance by a Registered Surveyor. Plans of Subdivision are further audited by Land and Property Information (LPI) prior to registration.
